The toasters are a legend. In business for 36 years now, they almost single-handedly kept the Two Tone era alive for a while. They have rightly become icons. But first things first: founded in 1981 by exiled Englishman Rob 'Bucket' Hingley on Manhattan's Lower East Side, the Toasters sound of world beat, soul, rap, rocksteady, reggae and ska with rock and punk influences shines brighter than that of pretty much every other ska band. No wonder, since the New Yorkers are consistently great musicians who live out their artistic will with other great bands such as the New York Ska Jazz Ensemble.
